The Rafa Nadal Song

The Spanish Davis Cup team dedicated a song to Rafael Nadal during the tie in Benidorm!

Cup team-mate Feliciano Lopez was apparently the lead singer and instigator of this instant crowd hit!

Lyrics:

Por eso yo, te quiero dar
Rafa, mi corazon
Yo te sigo en todas las partes
Gracias por ser español

Translation:

That is why, I want to give you
Rafa, my heart
I follow you everywhere
Thank you for being Spanish

Lalalalalala, repeat until hoarse!

EDIT March 11th:

Apparently the tune of this song is from an original track from an Argentinian group called “La Mosca Tse Tse” Called “Yo Te Quiero Dar”, and it is used with different lyrics to support various football teams. Go to Minute 1:33 of this video to see where Feli “borrowed” this from!

Davis Cup – Nadal beats Djokovic, Spain advance

Rafael Nadal took the first set 6-4 in the decisive Davis Cup match between Spain and Serbia. Nadal and Djokovic had earlier taken turns in breaking each others serves, but Rafa finished stronger by breaking to lead 5-4, then holding serve to take the set.

In the second set, both players held serve until Nadal was able to lift his game in the crucial moment, breaking at 4-4 and then serving out the set.

In the third set, Nadal took advantage of the numerous unforced errors of Djokovic to close out the match 6-4, 6-4, 6-1.

Rafa will now travel to the USA for the ATP 1000 event at Indian Wells, and Spain will look forward with cautious optimism to a quarter-final tie between either Germany or Austria in July.

Davis Cup – Nadal beats Tipsarevic in straight sets

spainserbia DAVIS CUP – Spain vs Serbia, Benidorm, Spain

Rafael Nadal defeated Janko Tipsarevic 6-1, 6-0, 6-3 in a match that turned out to be even more one-sided than Rafa fans had anticipated. Nadal looks to be in superb form, moving freely and completely recovered from his recent injury. He took the first set in just 32 minutes, the second was finished before the hour mark, and the victory was claimed with only slightly more resistance from the Serb in the third set.

Earlier, David Ferrer had taken the first point in the Davis Cup tie against for Spain with a surprisingly comfortable three set win over Novak Djokovic, the world’s number three, 6-3, 6-3, 7-6.

The only downside of this awesome Spanish performance for Nadal fans? A doubles win for Spain would rob us of a Nadal-Djokovic clash tomorrow! Having said that, given the poor showing of Djokovic today against Ferrer, and Rafa’s absolute dominance over Tipsarevic, it could save us from a rather one-sided encounter!

The doubles match will be played from 11 on Sunday and if they are necessary, the return singles will be played on the same day as the doubles, unless conditions do not allow, in which case they will take place on Monday.

Nadal – Hopes it won’t be necessary for him to play Djokovic

Nadal with Davis Cup

Rafael Nadal said that he hoped it would not be necessary to play Djokovic, because that would mean that the tie had already been won for Spain. The fact that the two are the number ones of their respective teams means that they would not meet until the third day, Sunday, by which time the round could already be decided.

“I hope we won’t have to play because that will mean that we have won 3-0, but I don’t think it will be like that, and that it will be an even tie.”

When the reporters asked him about whether he might be missing match play due to his recent injuries, Nadal said that just the opposite applied. “After the beating that I took in Australia, and without rest, the further “beating” in Rotterdam accompanied by some maginificent results, I don’t really think that I will do badly here”, he affirmed.
